Amy Lane is a licensed family and psychiatric nurse practitioner. Amy graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1993 from Towson State University, in Maryland. After practicing for five years as an RN she returned to school and completed her master’s degree in nursing as a Family Nurse practitioner from Marymount University, in Virginia in 1998. For eleven years she practiced as a primary care provider and also an emergency room APRN. Previously she was on staff at Lawrence and Memorial hospital in New London, CT. There she provided in patient care for general pediatrics and the newborn nursery. She has been on staff at William Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT since 2002 and continues to keep medical staff privileges there.
It became apparent during her practice that many individuals were using their local emergency rooms as first line treatment for their mental health needs. Unfortunately this has become common due to the lack of mental health services available to adults, but even more so to children. In 2009 Amy returned to St. Joseph’s college in West Hartford, CT to pursue advanced psychiatric training and a certificate as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. She joined Select Behavioral Health full time and continued to work briefly in the out-patient mental health department at William Backus Hospital.
Amy provides psychiatric and medication evaluations/management for both adults and children. She is especially interested in and trained to treat children and adolescents with Asperger’s syndrome, Autism, ADHD, mood disorders and learning disabilities. Years of prior family practice training has led to a holistic approach when treating mental health issues. Preventative care and education are a critically important part of her practice.
Amy has previously taught for Northern Kentucky University and for St. Joseph’s college in Hartford along with offering clinical training to other nurse practitioner students from Quinnipiac University, University of Connecticut, Yale University and the University of Kentucky.
Amy is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner and as a Primary Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Health Council Board of Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau, Yale Chapter Honor Society for Nurses.
